Michael Nicholls-Pierce (Wilmington, DE)
What got you into Photography? When did you start? My grandfather was the first photographer that I ever met. He saw that I was able to draw when I was younger. One day, he told me that I would be a great photographer. His exact words were, “If you can draw a picture then you can work a camera.” He then gave me a small pocket sized digital camera to practice on. In 2012, I joined the yearbook club. My teacher told me that my shots were very impressive and that I should pursue photography in college. My first year of college, my grandfather gifted me his old camera. The rest was history from there on. |
What has been the most challenging part of being a photographer? The most challenging part about being a photographer is remembering when clients ask me to photoshop them to make them look like a totally different person. (i.e. “can you make me 30 lbs smaller?” or “I forgot to get my nails done, but you can fix that right?”) Things like that bother me for more reasons than one. You have many different types of photographs on your website and instagram. But what type of photography is your favorite and why? Great question! My favorite style of photography would be portrait photography. Reason being is because it is simple yet you can do so much. Also, you can sense so much emotion with each image if done correctly. |
I saw on your instagram that you are involved in other things besides photography. What are those different things? I am big on trying to help others and seeing others thrive. I currently work in the healthcare industry working the mentally gifted. Alongside that, I volunteer at a local shelter, as well as my church, Seeds of Greatness. Have you noticed your photography style change since you started? Most definitely. I often look back at my old work and laugh because I see the growth (I see how bad the pictures were back then). I can see where my attention to detail has improved, editing techniques have enhanced, etc. My overall niche has become its own which I am grateful for. |
What are your goals for 2020 with your photography or the other ventures you have in life?
My 2020 goals are to expand my business, Nicholls-Pierce & Company. Also, I intend to connect with other fellow creatives even more to build an entire network. Mainly, I want to show people that it is ok to do your things YOUR OWN way and still prosper.

What has been the most fulfilling thing about being a photographer? The most fulfilling thing about photography is having the ability to freeze a moment in time and create your own piece of history. Having the ability to capture the good moments in life is truly an amazing feeling. Also, being able to create a world of your own with your art… That is beautiful to me. |
