Please describe (for the people all the way in the back), what is the importance of being body positive?
The importance of being body positive is the relationship/bond you build between your soul, your mind, and your body. Establishing unconditional love for oneself is the foundation of that bond. It allows you to accept yourself fully in whatever body you present to yourself in the mirror; and to the world each day. When you have that kind of love and appreciation for your own body; you’ll appreciate other bodies as they come as well. So we took some time to listen to your ICY GIRL FREESTYLE. I think that freestyle alone helps back up your answer to #2, but besides that, do you notice advantages of being a woman in the music industry? Are there any disadvantages? I don’t feel there’s necessarily an advantage at all. But fortunately right now female artists are literally dominating the industry, so that could be one. As far as disadvantages, I feel like women have to work harder than the males to be accepted. It’s a higher standard for talent in females because for so long it has been a male dominated industry. |
Being from Wilmington, Delaware, have you worked with any other local artists or have plans to work with any local artists in particular? Who are you bumpin' from Delaware?
I recently worked on “Hot Summer”, a freestyle over “I Need a Hot Girl” by Hot Boyz, with a local rap artist Conway. I haven’t made any original music with a local artist as of yet, but I have some things in the works with BMagic302. There's a project (called "BOMBS2") out by a Wilmington rapper named Birk; young guy, unique story. I’ve been definitely bumping “Watch Ur Mouth” by Jasmyn Milan and “Drop” by Hollye Monroe. Those are two dope female artists right from here! Also, theres Quadie Diesel.....he’s sick...a different type of wave! As self care is becoming a bigger movement, what do you personally do for self care, and/or suggest to other women and men focusing on self care. For self care I take sleep extremely seriously! Make sure you get your rest, because this is not something to cheat on! When I’m well rested I’m ready for practically anything lol. I may also turn my phone off and skip states. As Sometimes you really need a change of scenery and time to unplug away from all your stuff (obligations). One last thing I do is: I say no. If it affects my energy, no; if o I say yes to me and my sanity. Always Put yourself first. |
What do you think Wilmington Delaware could really benefit from nowadays? What change can we start to push for, for our city?
Wilmington Delaware would greatly benefit from media exposure. We could definitely use more platforms to display the many talented people right up under our nose. If we had radio stations and more established recording studios, there would be more opportunities for us to create, collaborate and push our In-House talents. Something I think we should push for is free programs for our city’s youth. Whether recreational or educational, our kids need outlets to occupy their minds and exercise their creativity. Time spent using our minds and being creative is time that won’t be spent adding to one of our city’s biggest issues; youth violence.

What's the biggest struggle you've faced and overcome so far in your career? How did you overcome this struggle and how has it benefited you in the long run?
I’ve overcame being so anxious and creatively introverted. Contrary to a lot of people’s beliefs, for a significant amount of my life I hoarded my most intimate thoughts, creations and talents. I guess with me being so confident, people never expected to hear this. I’ve kept these things to myself because I was not interested in anyone’s perception or opinions on what I created. What I presented to the world was exactly what I wanted them to see/know. I overcame that struggle by actually playing around in the studio with BMagic302, remixed “All Eyes On You” by Meek Mill & Nicki Minaj.
After recording my version, he convinced me to put it online (which I would have never done). After putting it on YouTube, I received so much encouragement from people that were already presenting their gifts to the world. Supporters of mine began to press me about when I would do more songs and if I would do some originals. Once that happened, I made the decision to give people what they want....eventually it became what I wanted as well. Sharing my talents has benefited me by allowing me to be discovered by people I never crossed paths with, never been in the same room with (big and small)....a lot of them appreciate what I put out.
Give one stereotype of Wilmington that is true and one that is false and please explain the reasoning behind it.
One stereotype that is false is “Wilmington is the Hood”. Wilmington , for sure, is the inner city, urban area. But as in any area (suburban, rural or urban), there are places that have different demographics within those areas. There are places in Wilmington where you might not want to be at after a certain time. But there’s also many places where it is completely safe and sound. Normal life going on, on normal blocks, quiet homes, friendly neighbors as well. Outside looking in, people really think it’s a baby Chicago. It’s not lol. I promise. They make it seem like it’s a dead end here. As if being from Wilmington will keep us from making it in OR out of the city.
One stereotype of Wilmington that is true is about the gun violence that happens here. Although, like I mentioned, there are decent areas in Wilmington; there are also shootings in this city. This is common in most urban cities across America. Our city is so small so the impact of just one shooting hits harder on the stats.
