MGMT - Little Dark Age

Today I listened to Little Dark Age, the new MGMT record released under Columbia Records. This album, while not my favorite MGMT album, was still incredibly unique and enjoyable. I loved the spacey, vocoded vocals in songs like "She Works Out Too Much", as they reminded me of the Gorillaz sound in the early 2000's. The sound design was also fantastic, the dark acid-basses that were found in almost every song gave the album an 80s synth-pop vibe. There was also a variety of unique sounds used to create extremely catchy hooks, like in "When You Die". Like usual, I have very minimal criticism for this album. There was very little that I didn't like. The only negative I could think of would pertain to the the song "James". The vocals were incredibly quiet, and there was a constant white noise in the background for most of the song that annoyed me. The white noise drowns out the vocals a bit and take away from the song as a whole. Overall, Little Dark Age was a great album and MGMT has yet to produce a bad record.

Outside of the working world, music is something I invest a lot of time in, in more ways than one. I could spend hours on my SoundCloud timeline, Apple Music, or YouTube discovering new artists to listen to and enjoy. I have channeled this love into brief music reviews that can be found in the appropriate part of this website.  I have also begun to produce music myself, learning the ins and outs of Ableton, Serum, Audacity, and other software, and it still remains one of my favorite ways to spend my free time. It has sparked a love for learning new technologies and software and that is something I hope to continue to grow with. I feel that my lifelong interest in the technical side of creative arts combined with my newfound love for analytics combine perfectly and serve me well in the marketing and advertising realm.
