I chose to listen to Knox Fortune's debut album Paradise that he recently self-released. Of all the albums I have reviewed, this is the only one I genuinely did not enjoy for the most part. For starters, right off the bat the first song "No Dancing" is a strange mix of dissonant reversed chords over pitched-up vocals, that go off-beat for most of the song to create a jumbled mess of a song that lacked substance and had no real form. Every song after, with the exception of one is similar in the sense that he repeats whiny lyrics over and over again, in over seemingly the same boring, contrived beat comprised of simple drums, keys, and guitar. This entire album sounds like if you played an old Bob Dylan record on a record player and slowed it down a few RPM. The only saving grace was ONE song, "Lil Thing". This is the only highlight of the album it's a fun song reminiscent of a summer fling. For once, Knox Fortune actually utilizes a minimal beat well and it truly works, finally.

Author: Frank McLaughlinOutside of the working world, music is something I invest a lot of time in, in more ways than one. I could spend hours on my SoundCloud timeline, Apple Music, or YouTube discovering new artists to listen to and enjoy. I have channeled this love into brief music reviews that can be found in the appropriate part of this website. I have also begun to produce music myself, learning the ins and outs of Ableton, Serum, Audacity, and other software, and it still remains one of my favorite ways to spend my free time. It has sparked a love for learning new technologies and software and that is something I hope to continue to grow with. I feel that my lifelong interest in the technical side of creative arts combined with my newfound love for analytics combine perfectly and serve me well in the marketing and advertising realm. |
