Houses began after Dexter Tortoriello, a well established singer, songwriter, and producer, returned to Chicago after living in Hawaii. He was living with his partner, Megan Messina, and began to combine samples of his older music with his records from Hawaii and created his new side project; Houses. His first song "Endless Spring" took off immediately and was even featured on Pitchfork's website. Tortoriello was signed almost instantly by Lefse Records. Soon after his partner Messina joined him to work as Houses. Their debut album was released in 2010, titled All Night. Since then Tortoriello has been recognized universally by other musicians as a "dance music heavyweight". Houses features tracks that include experimental sounds and true raw emotion.
