Halsey Promises a Hell of a Night

Raised on Biggie & Nirvana

The 25 year old pop-star Halsey, is a glorifed 90's kid! She  released her debut album, "Badlands" in 2015 which features hits: Castle, Colors, and New Americana. While promoting the album, she opened for Imagine Dragons on their "Smoke + Mirrors" tour. Still I think her greatest accomplishment early in her career would have to be getting called out for plagiarizing herself. Lyrics to her song "Colors", fans had pointed out had been taken from Tumblr. Turns out they were, however the person who had originally written them in a poem was a seventeen-year-old Halsey.
In 2019, when Halsey teamed up with K-Pop group BTS, their video for their song "Boy with Luv" was the most viewed YouTube video ever in 24 hours. The lead single from her 2020 album, "Without Me", made her the 8th female to receive two #1 hit singles during the 2010's.

Manic

The single immediately received praised from John Mayor who's reaction to originally hearing the song is featured on her album Manic. While just about everyone on earth has heard of Halsey at the LEAST through her feature on the Chainsmoker's song "Closer", her latest album is surely the greatest addition to her discography. On January 17th, 2020 Halsey put out one of the first front to back masterpieces of the year. I can't help but be reminded of Alanis Morissette's, Jagged Little Pill, which is perfect considering Alanis is one of the few features on the album. The song clementine makes reference to the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind while the song, killing boys, refers to the 2009 film, Jennifer's Body. The contrast between the themes of these two movies are much like the themes on the album. Most are motivated by love, but the emotions that come with it are constantly changing from afraid, to angry, to happy and everything in between.
