Manic
The single immediately received praised from John Mayor who's reaction to originally hearing the song is featured on her album Manic. While just about everyone on earth has heard of Halsey at the LEAST through her feature on the Chainsmoker's song "Closer", her latest album is surely the greatest addition to her discography. On January 17th, 2020 Halsey put out one of the first front to back masterpieces of the year. I can't help but be reminded of Alanis Morissette's, Jagged Little Pill, which is perfect considering Alanis is one of the few features on the album. The song clementine makes reference to the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind while the song, killing boys, refers to the 2009 film, Jennifer's Body. The contrast between the themes of these two movies are much like the themes on the album. Most are motivated by love, but the emotions that come with it are constantly changing from afraid, to angry, to happy and everything in between.
