Today I listened to the new Daniel Caesar album, Freudian, released under Golden Child Recordings. Each song was incredibly well-written and produced. Caesar has a timeless voice and his lyrics are truly poetic. I was impressed and pleasantly surprised by the features of this album. Kali Uchis and Syd are two of my favorite female vocalists of all time, and their parts in this album fit so incredibly well. Their soulful sounds fit so well into the overall vibe and feel of this record, and I couldn't imagine a better pair of singers to be featured. I also have to praise the guitar-skills of Caesar on this album. Songs like Take Me Away cut away to Hendrix-esque riffs that I absolutely loved. It was really hard to find anything wrong with this album, and my only possible complaint would be that it was a very low-energy, slow-jam sort of record. This makes complete sense considering the genre and Caesar's sound as a whole, but it would have been great to have an upbeat song somewhere in the mix. I feel like Caesar's soulful sound would translate well to a high-energy gospel song of some kind.

I have channeled this love into brief music reviews that can be found in the appropriate part of this website. I have also begun to produce music myself, learning the ins and outs of Ableton, Serum, Audacity, and other software, and it still remains one of my favorite ways to spend my free time. It has sparked a love for learning new technologies and software and that is something I hope to continue to grow with. I feel that my lifelong interest in the technical side of creative arts combined with my newfound love for analytics combine perfectly and serve me well in the marketing and advertising realm. |
