Big Boi Returns to the Firefly Stage

Big Boi, born Antwan Andre Patton, is a 45 year old American rapper, songwriter, actor and record producer from Savannah, Georgia. He is known for his witty lyrics and word-play, as well as for his many features, collaborations, and successful solo projects. He is also one-half of the hip hop duo Outkast alongside fellow American rapper Andrè 3000. Together, the two have produced a number of hit albums which have won a number of awards, including Grammys for Best Rap Album in 2002, and Album of the Year in 2004.

Big Boi first appeared on the charts in 1999 for Missy Elliot’s “All N My Grill,” which peaked at #64 on the Billboard Hot 100, then again in 2003 for his feature on Killer Mike’s single “A.D.I.D.A.S..” His first hit came in 2005 with the release of “Kryptonite” off of his album Got Purp? Vol. 2., which was called one of the year’s best rap singles. Other popular releases from Big Boi include “All Night,” “Kill Jill (feat. Killer Mike & Jeezy)” and “Shutterbugg.”

During their time as members of the duo Outkast, Big Boi and Andrè 3000 produced and released a total of six albums, which featured hit songs like “Roses,” “Hey Ya!” and “Ms. Jackson.” Despite not releasing new music in a number of years, Outkast’s fast paced songs and clever, catchy lyrics continue to be widely recognized and popular to this day.

Big Boi’s last album, Boomiverse, was released in 2017 and featured artists like Gucci Mane, Killer Mike and Snoop Dogg. His latest single, “Intentions,” which also featured artists Sleepy Brown and CeeLo Green, was released in 2019.

This Summer will be Big Boi’s second appearance at Firefly since Outkast headlined in 2014.
