Today I decided to review the highly anticipated Zhu album, Ringo's Desert, Pt. 1 released under Mind of A Genius records. This album has thoroughly impressed me and is in top contention for one of my favorite electronic albums released in the past year. Zhu puts a new twist on his classic sound with an album full of hypnotic bass lines and ethereal vocals. I especially enjoyed the first track, Stormy Love, NM which features beautiful vocals from JOY and makes for a very catchy and upbeat jam. I loved the use of 80s-esque synthesizers in much of the songs, especially in Desert Woman when used in a call and response with a guitar saturated in reverb. The only thing this album could have done better would be to cut down on the length of some songs. Certain songs started to become repetitive after a few minutes and it would have been a lot better in my opinion to cut out the extra minute of kicks and snares that seemed to find itself in the end of every song.

I could spend hours on my SoundCloud timeline, Apple Music, or YouTube discovering new artists to listen to and enjoy. I have channeled this love into brief music reviews that can be found in the appropriate part of this website. I have also begun to produce music myself, learning the ins and outs of Ableton, Serum, Audacity, and other software, and it still remains one of my favorite ways to spend my free time. It has sparked a love for learning new technologies and software and that is something I hope to continue to grow with. I feel that my lifelong interest in the technical side of creative arts combined with my newfound love for analytics combine perfectly and serve me well in the marketing and advertising realm. |
