The Regrettes Bring Feminist Garage Pop to Firefly

Bringing Feminist Garage Pop To Firefly Music Festival

The Regrettes rock. With heavy guitar and strong vocals muddled with a vulnerability that feels like it’s being performed at someone’s basement show, their debut on the Firefly stage is not to be missed. The four piece band fronted by Lydia Night and Genessa Gariano is an explosive experience of girl-punk out of Los Angeles. Their sound has been described as riot grrrl, garage-punk or power-pop.
On Feel Your Feelings Fool!, their first studio album released in 2017, Night belts out emotionally cathartic lyrics with a radical self-acceptance that feels very punk-rock. However, it was on their most recent album that dropped last year, How do you love? that the band explored a more nuanced approach to songwriting. The album powers through 15 tracks, unraveling a narrative that recounts with dreamy nostalgia the birth and death of a romance.

First State Studios Top 3 Songs We Hope To See Performed At Firefly

1. Seashore
The girls really talk their talk and walk their walk in this single. Almost like a punk tango you'd dance by yourself on the beach while you flip off your ex.

2. I Dare You
If you're a fan of The Strokes, you'll enjoy this one.

3. California Friends

This one will be insanely fun to see live. I can already picture it. Also, if you have freckles or like freckles, you'll especially agree with this song.

Watch The Regrettes' Music Video for I Dare You

As we said before, this song is as if The Strokes had a female singer. I Dare You possesses a feeling that makes people feel young at heart, and happy to be a teenager.

A top comment on YouTube states, "Bisexual culture is having a crush on every member of this band." and that pretty much sums up The Regrettes.

Sarra Sundstrom is a soon-to-be graduate from the University of Delaware. Pursuing a career in communications, she is interested in working with music and art and finding ways to combine that with a passion for the environment. When she gets some time away from her laptop, she’s probably spending time getting lost in the woods somewhere at a festival or on a nature trail. When it comes to music, she listens to just about anything but finds herself coming back to old school hip-hop, reggae, and techno. She’s always down for a live show and is a great plus one.
