I chose to listen to SAINTt JHN's debut album, Collection One which was released under Godd Complexx Records. For starters, this album was beautifully produced and mastered. For an album that relied heavily on 808s and various other bass elements, they were fantastically integrated into each song, and did not muddle the vocals and other layers of the song as traditional hip hop 808s seem to do. Aside from the mixing, SAINt JHN himself is an incredibly talented vocalist that puts an interesting twist on the trap sound that dominates modern hip-hop. He creates incredibly catchy hip/hop R&B tracks like "3 Below" and "I Heard You Got Too Litt Last Night" that are impossible to not bob your head along with, and even sing along. The only downside of this album would have to be that many of the songs sound too similar, if not the same. He makes an effort to create unique songs but many of them rely on the same drum beat and melodies. There are standouts like "Selfish", but overall many of the tracks on the album seem to be continuations of the previous track with minor alterations.

Author: Frank McLaughlinOutside of the working world, music is something I invest a lot of time in, in more ways than one. I could spend hours on my SoundCloud timeline, Apple Music, or YouTube discovering new artists to listen to and enjoy. I have channeled this love into brief music reviews that can be found in the appropriate part of this website. I have also begun to produce music myself, learning the ins and outs of Ableton, Serum, Audacity, and other software, and it still remains one of my favorite ways to spend my free time. It has sparked a love for learning new technologies and software and that is something I hope to continue to grow with. I feel that my lifelong interest in the technical side of creative arts combined with my newfound love for analytics combine perfectly and serve me well in the marketing and advertising realm. |
