I Went To a Turnstile Concert Without Knowing...

So real quick, before I jump into this, please take a look at the video below. This is an everyday thing for this band...and this is where I found myself after thinking I was going to a chill shoegaze concert.

Okay so first off, I only went to this show because a friend of mine had two tickets and ended up not being able to go. He said "Hey you should go see this band Turnover, they're shoe gaze. So like very chill, they stand in one place and look down at their shoes the whole time...shoe gaze. I can't make it so you can have these tickets for free."

So free concert, yeah whatever, I'll take them. Said thank you and went to the show later that night. Let it be known, I had never even heard of Turnover before, let alone Turnstile. I listened to Turnover on the way down, and was jamming out. Turnover is super chill, super dank, perfect for summer beach vibes and long lost love. So we get in to the venue and II'm very relaxed, I mean, really really relaxed. Like so relaxed I was out of my element. Perfect for shoe gaze. I was so ready to stand in one spot, look at the lights, sway back and forth, throw a hand up every once in a while, the whole nine yards. I had no idea how many bands were playing, and at this point I didn't really care. The first band who opened was totally chill. I still don't know their names...But anyways, kind of strange. One member of the band was solely responsible for playing strange percussion, like triangle, chimes, tambourine, bongo, simple stuff. Yet every single song he changed into a different costume. From alien, to shark, to monster, to caveman. Just really bizarre stuff. But whatever I'm relaxed man. Me and my friend are like Shaggy and Scoob right now.

​The first band closes and we're like let's go, Turnover is about to rock our socks off. NOPE. The next thing I know, one man (Brendan Yates) comes to the microphone, leans in and just lets out the most vicious, blood curdling scream. A swarm of people literally spread to the walls and form a death pit throughout the whole crowd. I was right on the verge with my boy and I just looked at him, who now looked way more afraid then he should be, and just humbly admitted "I had no idea this was going to happen."

Turnstile fans do not crowd surf. They crowd kick and run. Like no exaggeration, people were running on top of people starting six, seven rows back and diving for the stage. The actual pit was a whole other story. Non stop. Every song. If you're going to a Turnstile concert I pray for you.

I was so out of my element, if I was pulled in to that madness, I honestly can say I would have died that night. So thank you God for watching over me.

The band is amazing though. Some say they bring the grunge and punk vibe like Angel Du$t, an indie rock band on the rise in 2019. Brendan was rocking a Wipers shirt so you know he's OG, and Bassist Franz Lyons brought so much energy to the stage. Dude moves around like a jumping jelly bean. 

Funniest part about the night too, was that I noticed Turnover had a background of emo punk a while back. So because so many people were just there for Turnstile, I literally thought the concert was over and we just saw the emo punk side of Turnover. I know, I'm a dingus. So I actually started to walk out the door. Luckily my friend convinced me they were up next and we got to relax again. ​
