Crooked Colours At Firefly 2019

The Dot Artist of the Month of May goes to an electronic trio all the way from Perth, Australia. But that's not the first time we've seen an artist on The Dot that's from overseas. Turns out the band went into hiding and everybody thought they were done with music, they've had their fair share....lucky for all of us, they hid in that cave for so long perfecting their brand new album Langata. And they actually just announced a headlining tour to show off this brand new album. To start off the album, they get very emotional and slow with vocals and piano but slowly but surely it amplifies into this jam of a song. By the way, their projected to be noted as the best electric group out of Australia in quite some time.

Five years ago, Perth electronic 3 piece band, Crooked Colours, won its way into the line-up of their hometown leg of Laneway Festival, a well anticipated festival in Australia. Now the indie-electro trio, who grew up around Mandurah, are gearing up to play some of America’s biggest festivals including Bonnaroo and Firefly. Yes, the Firefly Music Festival home to Dover, Delaware.
Tyler Brown of the Eastern Reporter got a chance to interview Crooked Colours band mamber Leon De Baughn, who now lives in Fremantle. And as De Baughn put it, performing at Bonnaroo – an annual four-day music festival in Tennessee – "was like a dream come true."

The Instagram post shows Crooked Colours performing in Australia for the Laneway Festival, which ultimately sprung on the festival line up for Crooked Colours.

The band is super excited to make there way from Perth to Delaware. And being from Delaware, we are very humble to host such great performers. I mean Delaware? Really? Of all places to perform...Just goes to show how big Firefly is really getting. And the funny thing about that is, us Delawareans still don't even realize. Classic.

Le Baughn went on to say, “When we did the last tour in the US, it was very positive but we weren’t really sure when we’d be able to come back again. Then our booking agent ended up landing all these festivals for us, which is huge." And huge it is.

Nowadays music festivals are responsible for exposing underground artists in a major way. Just think about it, you're waiting for the band you actually want to see so you get there early. The band playing at the moment is someone you've never heard of, or maybe you know one song. Then they play about five songs while you wait, and by the end of their set you're raving to your friends how great they were and how you never knew about them before. We all do it, don't lie. ​
