Zuri Richmond (Pennsgrove, NJ)
What got you into Photography? When did you start? I started near the end of 2017 with no real intention of pursuing photography, let alone music photography. It was just a habit to go to shows every month with friends and I found myself running out of phone storage, so I picked up an old point and shoot camera my dad had lying around the house and went to a small show in Philly with it. It felt so natural and ever since that night I just became more and more invested in making it a career. What has been the most fulfilling thing about being a photographer?
Contributing to a little part of history, especially in the music industry. You look back a few years and see your photos of artists that have gone from performing to barely anyone to selling out huge venues. Unfortunately sometimes artists are gone too soon, and the work of photographers/videographers/etc is a large part of what keeps their legacy alive. |
I’ve seen on your website you’ve done photography and cinematography. What is your favorite to do and why?
They’re both fulfilling in different ways. I would say I’m a photographer who sometimes does video, because I haven’t ventured into all that goes into video. Photography can take a fraction of a moment and turn it into something bigger, but video can also make more sense in telling the story.
What is one musician you would love to shoot and why?
Billie Eilish. She’s a little superstar.

What are your goals for 2020 with your photography or the other ventures you have in life?
With photography, I want more consistency, I want to allow myself to take more risks even if it results in a no, and to really push for myself because all you really have is yourself. Overall it’s just to create in any way I like and to be happy. I’ve been learning how to produce music, I like fashion a lot, many different things.
