PEMECT ( Wilmington, Delaware) |

What inspired you to start Pemect in the first place?
I have always been influenced by hip-pop, fashion, and art in general. I always thought it was unique and how people in that particular industry can influence my generation and will continue to influence the generation to come. Also I am really into skateboarding but I am not good whatsoever, but it was always the kind of community I have always wanted to be part of. So with the mixture of hip-pop, fashion, art, and skateboarding I was intrigued to make something but I wasn't sure what. I was just about 16 at the time as well, and I had history of just selling t-shirts so I just made PEMECT as a clothing brand.

How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I always tell this story and people expect something more like a transition in my life or a coming of age, but truly I was just hoping to make a new Instagram name. So in 8th grade I was in math class and apparently making a new instagram name was more important than paying attention, but on the walls there were words painted, Pemdas on the left and Respect on the right. So I just took the PEM from pemdas and ECT from respect and combined them to make PEMECT. I searched up the meaning but there was no such thing as pemect in the dictionary. I currently have no meaning for what it is but I would hope people will come up with their own meaning with the articles of clothing I release to the public. Did you start the clothing line on your own? Or was there a team of you that came up with the idea? I started PEMECT on my own, I made all the designs except for one, but I came up with the logo. I began selling my first t-shirt my freshman year just for fun and didn't think much of it. Also since I went to Delcastle Technical High School and was part of the Graphic Communications shop I made designs everyday and just sat there for three hours designing who knows what. PEMECT was nothing more than a name that I came up with and people called me that which I didn't mind. But I always kept a hidden identity even with my first design "who is pemect?" is what my first shirt said which I though was clever. Everything is ran by me, from the designs, to ordering, running social media, my websites, communicating with costumers, and fulfilling orders. |
How would you describe the overall image of Pemect? What kind of customer is your demographic?
The over all image I want to show is more like a rouged, street fashion, skateboarder look, the demographic is more or less focused on pre-teens, teenagers and adults getting near the age of 25 I would want to say but if older people love my stuff then thats even better! I would want it be universal but I am not there yet to captivate that age group. |
I noticed that some of your graphic designs on your t-shirts include puzzle pieces and a face. What does this mean to you?
Well that design is credited to my cousin Maria Valezquez (@vvairam) she wanted to collaborate and so she gave me options to choose. The puzzle piece caught my eye, I added my own twist to it while keeping the original design. What this piece in particular means to me is that there will always be moments in our life that we believe we have it all together and things are going right until a minor or major thing occurs and everything just falls into pieces just like a puzzle piece, and this is what is hidden behind closed doors. So what Maria and I wanted to bring is an awareness to mental health issues and to connect with people who have felt like this at one point and wanted to show that is okay and that they are not alone.

You have a lot of awesome graphic t-shirts displayed on your Instagram. Do you have other articles of clothing for sale too?
I am currently working on a new release at this moment, and I will be releasing really soon, I am excited to show people the potential I have. I am working on my website getting everything ready, my marketing and advertising, and photoshoots. |
