Night Beats - The Volatile Seattle Band

Click here to listen to the January edition of The Dot podcast Night Beats was featured on...
Night Beats is an American psychedelic/garage rock band, formed in 2009 in Seattle, Washington. The band incorporates elements of early R&B, Texas psychedelic rock, English blues rock, folk and soul. A volatile mixture. You can clearly see this in their merch. Lead singer and guitarist, Danny "Lee Blackwell" Rajan Billingsley was raised Catholic and Hindu and moved to Seattle to study comparative religion at the University of Washington. Leaving Dallas, which he saw as "a wasteland of music", he founded Night Beats. Some artists out there might see their city the same way Billingsley did. Would you jump ship to start a better future for yourself? Very tough call. Not for Night Beats though, they're now on tour in United Kingdom, heading to Denmark and Germany and finally the United States come March. Check the link below.

Night Beats, Named after the Sam Cooke album "Night Beat", started their discography back in 2010 with a solo self-recorded EP titled H-Bomb 7. Billingsley asked his high school friend James Traeger to join him in Seattle to become a part of Night beats. Later on they recruited their basist, Tarek Wegner. Night Beat was signed weeks after releasing their EP, and soon had it re-released under Chicago's Trouble in Mind Records. Doing so helped them top the charts on multiple college radio stations. Their debut self titled album was released in June 2011, followed by their second album Sonic Bloom in September 2013. In 2015, the band released their third album titled Who Sold My Generation, under Heavenly Recordings who are based out in London. Most recently, on September 24th they announced their fourth album Myth of a Man would arrive on January 28th 2019.

Kyle Sobieski is a digital content producer and founder of First State Studios. With a background in music and songwriting under the pseudonym Pierce Frolic, Kyle personally knows the amount of work and determination that goes into becoming an artist of any medium. Towards the end of high school, Kyle realized the lack of support in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware for the arts and underground talents. So he began digging deeper into the lives of local artists, and thus, First State Studios was born. Sobieski has a diverse musical palette and loves nothing more in life than seeing people who are passionate and courageous with what they do. "It's these people who make the world a more colorful, intimate place for everybody."
